ALSO BITTE WEITER UNTERZEICHNEN FÜR UNSEREN WELT-BÜRGER-PARK!

(4017) & Otto, 11: Retten Sie unseren Mauerpark (2094).Ein Schnappschuss: facebook 6.3.2013>>>

"The Berlin Wall was for decades the symbol of the Cold War and the division of Europe." Please read the English Version and sign this Avaaz-Petition for a Mauerpark without any construction :

Mauerpark in Gefahr!

Mauerpark, a symbolic watershed of global significance - historically, environmentally and culturally. A symbol of east-west reunification and a symbol of global land destruction for "development". Mauerpark needs your help! Let us protect Mauerpark from "development" for profit by construction companies in just the same way as we want to stop land destruction for profits in many other places in the world, from the Amazon to Borneo. Let the protection of Mauerpark symbolize our determination to save the natural spaces of our planet.

Mauerpark is one of the star attractions in Berlin especially on a Sunday, when thousands of Berliners and tourists meet to enjoy the flea-market and the chilled out atmosphere. It is a place for everyone. But even during the week Mauerpark has lots to offer, it has a farm, a climbing wall, a playground, a green-garden, and lots of space to enjoy playing games and lazing around and socializing with people from all over the world. But now once again this wonderful park has come under threat!

Permanant Secretary Christian Gaebler (SPD) announced most recently to the Local Parliament Urban Development Committee of the Berlin suburb of Mitte the horror B-plan I-64 from his predecessor City Councillor Gothe, who foresees a massive development in the north and south area of the Mauerpark.

A meeting about this was held on the 30th of March 2012. As people met at the Local Council Assembly on Karl Marx Allee to discuss the future of the Mauerpark, the debate as expected got very heated. Everyone got the chance to put their thoughts forward in 3 minute slots. Committee chairman Frank Bertermann from the Green party and City District Councillor Carsten Spallek from the CDU party were faced by numerous angry citizens, with strong opinions about the subject at hand. Many valid points were raised against the proposed building of housing in Mauerpark and very few valid arguments were made for the proposed construction plans, with the local citizens very much united against the plans.

For over 20 years  citizens of Berlin have been committed to the cause of preserving and protecting the Mauerpark for the benefit of everyone.

Mauerpark, so named because the Berlin wall used to run through it dividing the city and the world, has since become a symbolic space to reunite the people of Berlin, Germany, East and West. It is part of history and now and a place where people from all walks of life meet. Mauerpark is a place for people to come and relax, for children to play and for tourists to enjoy a place like no other in the world. A green space in midst of grey concrete flats! Where once it was the embodiment of division it has come to symbolize community and togetherness in the reunited city.

We must continue to fight for this cause and create attention. This petition is our last hope of saving the Mauerpark, a “World Citizens Park” for EVERYONE!! Sign this Petition NOW as a clear signal that we all want to expand the park without it being built on!!! Thousands of signatures show the politicians, economic representatives and civil society that we DO NOT agree with building flats in such a perfect communal Park, the Mauerpark!

Berlin as we have known and loved it, is under attack. It is under attack from those politicians and business men who have got neither interest in nor respect for the city itself; its history, its people or its environment. In recent times we have already seen important cultural sites and green spaces replaced with ugly, commercial buildings and apartment blocks, financed by speculators keen to extract every penny that they can from the berlin economy without putting anything back. In so doing these greedy politicians, speculators and businessmen are ripping the heart and soul from Berlin, please don't let them succeed in mutilating our beloved Mauerpark too!!

The extension and the will to preserve the Mauerpark is a project not just for locals but for Berlin, Germany and the world as a whole. It is not just for the benefit of current generations but just as importantly for generations yet unborn.

We must defend ourselves against the egotism, which will sacrifice at least 4 hectares of land from the last 10 hectares of open communal green space in the area, just to bring about a quick fix. Once built on, these four hectares, will be lost forever, and this in an area which, at 1,1 square meters per inhabitant offers the least green space in Berlin. A free range chicken in Denmark is by law granted the same amount… (www.oekolandbau.de/erzeuger/tierhaltung/gefluegelhaltung/legehennen/haltung/gruenauslauf-fuer-junghennen)

The „Mauerpark Foundation World-Citizens-Park” has begun to raise money and to find sponsors and grants. The district claims to be unable to afford to purchase the land, but in actual fact has made little or no attempt to raise funds in order to finance such a deal, preferring instead to allow unscrupulous developers to muscle in for their own financial gain. The „Mauerpark Foundation World-Citizens-Park” is therefore taking on the role that was entrusted to the politicians by attempting to raise significant funds and awareness in a quest to preserve the Mauerpark. The Foundation can't do it alone, we need your help! The Mauerpark of Berlin, as a supplement to the Wall Memorial, has the chance to be recognized as a World Heritage Site in the future. Help us preserve this special piece of land as an open space for everyone and our future generations!
